Tort law is the area of law that deals with civil wrongs or injuries to individuals or their property. This includes everything from intentional torts (such as assault and battery) to negligence (such as a car accident). Generally speaking, if someone has caused harm to another person—whether it be physical, emotional, financial, or otherwise—the victim can sue for damages in a court of law.
Tort law also covers cases where one person's negligence causes harm to another person—or even when two people act negligently and cause harm to each other. For example, if two drivers are both speeding and they collide with each other, they can both be held responsible for their own negligence in the eyes of the law.
